State funeral for former President Jimmy Carter

President Joe Biden has declared January 9 a national holiday and all federal offices will be closed in Washington, D.C., to honor former President Jimmy Carter, who died at the age of 100. The state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter will be held on January 9 in Washington, D.C., and will be attended by all living U.S. presidents and dignitaries.

President Biden has also ordered that flags be flown at half-staff at government offices, post offices, and U.S. government facilities around the country for 30 days in memory of former President Jimmy Carter.

Former President Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29, 2024, will be honored at his home state of Georgia on January 4, and will lie in state at the Carter Center from January 4 to 6, where the public can pay their respects.

On January 7, it will be brought to Washington, D.C., where it will lie in state at the Capitol until January 8. On January 9, a state funeral will be held at the Washington National Cathedral, and on that day, it will be brought back to his hometown of Plains, Georgia, where he will be laid to rest near the grave of his wife, Rosalynn Carter.
